Citrix

What is Citrix?

Citrix is an application and desktop virtualization platform that enables FVTC to present and share software with students from anywhere in the world with an internet connection on any device running Windows, Linux, Mac, iOS, or Android. This allows students and staff to use a "Virtual Lab" computer that has access to FVTC software and network resources.

What are the hours of availability?

Citrix is available everyday and is never shut off unless we need to make an update that takes the service down.

Citrix may not be available during the following times:

  • Wednesday mornings from 4:00 AM - 7:00 AM
  • Sunday mornings from 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM

During the times above, we may disable the service to perform updates. Please plan accordingly.

Whats the difference between a Virtual Application and Virtual Desktop?

A virtual application and virtual desktop have a few differences. When you click a Virtual Application...you are only shown the application. When you use a virtual desktop you are presented with a fully functional windows computer FVTC owned software. Both Virtual Applications and Desktops have access to the S drive.

How do I use multiple monitors for my virtual desktop?

With your desktop in windowed mode drag the window so that it spans the split between the monitors that you want it to use. Once it is visible on both screens, when you press the button for fullscreen in the toolbar it will use all of the monitors that it is on. You may have to stretch it if you wish to use more than 2 monitors. For it to work properly, all screens must be the same resolution and orientation (portrait or landscape, not a combination).

What should I do if my mouse cursor is clicking in a spot away from my cursor?

There are a couple of causes for this behavior. If you have multiple monitors and they are set at different resolution or orientation that can cause problems. If your monitor is set at a scaling percentage other than 100% that can cause problems too. Opening your display settings and setting the scale to 100% should correct that.

Where should I save files?

We suggestion you use the following locations:

If you are using the Citrix Workspace App for Windows/Mac you can also use a flash drive
If you are using the Citrix Workspace App for HTML5, you can download and upload files through the browser
