Microsoft MFA | Manually add your FVTC account to the Microsoft Authenticator smartphone app

This KB Document provides step-by-step instructions on how to manually add your FVTC account to the Microsoft Authenticator smartphone app.

Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (Microsoft MFA)

It is highly recommended to visit the webpage MFA.fvtc.edu and follow the prompts to + Add sign-in method and choose Authenticator app. It will guide you through the process to add the app and add your account. If you do this from a computer, you will need to scan a QR code from within the Authenticator app as follows:

Tap the plus sign in the upper-right or tap Add account Choose Work or school account Tap Scan QR code

If you opt instead to manually add your FVTC account directly to the Microsoft Authenticator app, please follow these steps:

  1. Launch the Microsoft Authenticator app
    Launch the Micorosoft Authenticator app on your smartphone
  2. If this is the first time launching the app, you may be prompted to Accept the terms of use. Tap Accept.

  3. If this is the first time launching the app, you will be guided to add your first account. Tap Add work or school account.

    If you've already skipped this, you should instead tap Add account or the plus (+) sign in the upper-right and you should then choose Work or school account and Sign in.

  4. When prompted to Sign in, enter your nine-digit FVTC ID number followed by @fvtc.edu and tap Next.

  5. Enter your FVTC password and tap Sign in.

  6. You'll be prompted to open a web browser to complete the process. Tap Open browser.

  7. In the web browser on your phone, you will again need to Sign in. Enter your nine-digit FVTC ID number followed by @fvtc.edu and tap Next.

  8. Enter your FVTC password and tap Sign in.

  9. If your phone number is already enrolled as an authentication method for Microsoft MFA, you'll be prompted to verify your identity by either receiving and approving a phone call or receiving and entering a One-Time Password (OTP) code via text message.
    Choose to receive a Text message or a Phone call If you receive a One-Time Password (OTP) code via text message, enter it and tap Verify
  10. When prompted to get the Microsoft Authenticator app, click Next.

  11. When prompted to set up your account in the app, tap Pair your account to the app by clicking this link. Allow your phone to open the Authenticator app by tapping Open.

  12. Your Fox Valley Technical College account will now be completed added to the Authenticator app. If prompted to allow the Authenticator app to send notifications to your phone, tap Allow.
