Teams | Winter 2021 Updates!

Microsoft has rolled out more new features available now and in early 2021!

Breakout rooms are here!

Meeting organizers can now split large and small meetings into individual breakout rooms for separate discussions and collaborations. Look for the breakout room icon in your top system controls: Breakoutroomicon.png
  1. Easily create breakouts: Participants can be divided automatically, or you can select who goes in what room.
  2. Communicate with the rooms: Make meeting room announcements and chats so all breakout rooms keep on task or prompt for new discussions.
  3. Check-in on the convo: As an organizer you can check in on any conversation taking place in any breakout room.
  4. Warning for breakouts ending: All breakout rooms get a 10 second warning when you decide to bring everyone back to the main group.
Training coming soon!  Keep an eye out for the email or visit the Staff Development Center today!

Recorded Meetings Videos are moving

When you record meetings (starting in January 2021), the final location of those meetings will no longer be found in Stream, but rather in the OneDrive Folder of the person who Started the recording. It will be found in a new folder in your OneDrive labeled: Recordings.  What are the benefits?
  1. Easy access to the Meeting Video. ALL meeting attendees from FVTC will receive a shared link to access the meeting recording.
  2. Easy access for external Participants to the meeting video. Since it is in OneDrive you can share the file directly with external users with a shared link.
  3. Better Transcription. With the move Microsoft has also created a better transcription and speaker attribution on the final recording.
  4. What not Changing? Meetings started inside of Teams Channels, will also be stored in a Recordings folder, but that will be inside of the Teams channel. NOT in the folder of the person who started the meeting.

PowerPoint Presenter Mode visible when screen sharing

Now when you present a full PowerPoint presentation in Teams, as the meeting organizer you'll see the presenter mode in your meeting, not just the full screen presentation. This means, you can see your notes, the next slide and the usual features you're used to seeing when using this mode.PresenterModeInTeams.png

It is private to just you, your participants still see your full screen. And if you give access to another presenter, they will see the notes mode and you will go back to seeing the audience view. Roll out is scheduled for late January to early February 2021.

Reporting on who attended your session

We know attendee lists and who showed up is important for many of you and Microsoft is listening! February and March is the target to roll out advanced reporting features on your attendees. Stay tuned!
