Duo | Email on your Phone

This document helps you with email issues on your phone after Duo has been enabled.

After having Duo MFA added to your account, you might have an issue with email on your phone.

If your phone keeps prompting you for your email password, here are some things to try.
Pick the type of device you have.

Android Users

First try going into your phone settings, find accounts and try updating your password from there.
Second, if that does not work, deleting and re-adding email to your phone will be your best option. Androids settings vary depending on OS installed. If you need assistance, please contact the help desk (920) 735-5644.
FINALLY PLEASE NOTE: With some Android phones, even after deleting and re-adding the account, email might not work. This is because "Native and third-party mail apps that do not support Modern Authentication will fail to connect to Office 365 mailboxes. Only applications that support Microsoft's Modern Authentication libraries are able to prompt for Duo two-factor authentication. This is a Microsoft -- not Duo -- limitation.  We find downloading the Microsoft Outlook app would be your best option at this point if you still want email and calendar access from your phone.

iPhones Users

Step 7. You will need to use Duo MFA for the next step. In the example I use below I have the Duo App installed on the same iPhone. Having the Duo App installed on your phone is NOT required to have work email on your phone. You can use any Duo MFA option to login with.

Select your MFA option

Step 8. If you selected Push and the App is installed on your phone, tap the Duo Push notification that comes up, or complete whatever form of DUO MFA you have selected.

Tap Duo popup

Step 9. Tap the Green check box to approve the login; you will need to manually return to the mail app after doing this.

Approve signin

Step 10. You may or may not get this message. If you do select “Accept”

Click Approve if you get this message

Step 11. Choose what items you want synchronized with your phone, after select “Save”

Click Save

Your Email should now be working!
